At the new online edition of our Laravel Meetup, Laravelians from all over the German-speaking world come together, help each other and discuss current Laravel topics. In-depth technical input is provided by the Laravel experts from byte5.
In the first slot of the 13th Laravel Meetup Germany, our expert Marcel Wege provided first insights into the first-party package Laravel Octane, which was released in April 2021. Octane is based on Roadrunner and Swoole, a PHP application server in GOLang and an Async PHP server in C/C++. Currently, Octane is only available in a beta version, which should definitely be considered when using it. Nevertheless, it already promises an enormous improvement in performance: Compared to NGINX with PHP FPM, which executes 184 requests in 5.04 seconds, Octane delivers 3,000 requests in the same time. Thus, the framework is a promising application for high-performance Laravel environments under PHP 8.

In the second slot of the Meetup, Joshua Blum addressed the topic of "Making customers happy - using Statamic and Laravel Nova to manage the front-end and back-end of an application". When customers can't independently update content on websites or manage data, it means additional, time-consuming work for developers. Statamic and Laravel Nova can help remedy this situation.
With its high flexibility and excellent usability, the flat-file CMS Statamic makes editing content much easier for users. It relies on the PHP framework Laravel, frontend framework Vue.js and the CSS framework Tailwind.
On the backend, the powerful first-party administration panel Laravel Nova simplifies the creation and management of Laravel applications. Statamic and Laravel Nova work very well together and also integrate with existing Laravel applications. The two comprehensive and proven, yet affordable platforms, help both developers and their customers save money and time in the long run by empowering users to become independent.
We would like to thank all participants for the exciting insights and lively discussions. We are already looking forward to continuing the series on June 10 from 17:30 to 19:00.
