Official Microsoft Conference in Seattle:

byte5 at Microsoft Build

Build is the official Microsoft developer conference and a huge spectacle for thousands of visitors from all over the world. Marcel and Dennis, senior devs at byte5, were right there in the middle of it.

Build is the official Microsoft developer conference and a huge spectacle with thousands of visitors from all over the world. byte5’s seniors devs, Marcel and Dennis, were there. They used their event budget for the trip, which byte5 grants every employee. In the interview, Dennis tells us about his time in Seattle.

What is special about Build? How is it different from other tech conferences?

They differ mainly in size and in scope. With over 10,000 visitors and at most times twelve parallel sessions, that’s a different scope we’re talking about in comparison to other conferences I have attended. It’s impressive, to say the least.

To what extent will what you learned at Build help you in your daily work with customer projects?

Across the board, all sessions had such a high quality. I gathered lots of new information, tips and tricks. Much of which I will certainly be able to apply in my day job!

Which topics stood out for you?

I found the Blazor session interesting. Before Build, I had always kind of dismissed it as a gimmick. But after the session, I definitely think the technology has potential. Especially for us at byte5, since we have a lot of developers who mainly come from the .NET field.

Has visiting Microsoft Build sparked an interest in a new topic for you?

I’ve been interested in AI and machine learning for a long time. So far, however, I’ve hardly had any points of contact with it. At Build, I’ve listened to a few beginner-friendly sessions on the topic. It’s a pretty strange world to me, but I’ve decided to stay there and play around a bit, so to speak. Azure in particular offers many services that make getting started with these topics really easy.

What was your absolute highlight at MS Build 2019?

Hard to say. For me, the entire trip to Seattle and the conference itself was actually a pretty cool experience! Perhaps my biggest highlight was the closing event, for which Microsoft had rented the entire Seattle Seahawks stadium – along with the food court.
